On Saturday evening 30th June,
most of the players and their
supporters from 6-a-side tournament
at Charlton Meridian joined
members of the Bexley Deaf Club
for a special barbeque. The
evening was a great success,
with a spread or freshly cooked
food, disco, raffles and good
company.
David Foot gave a brief history
of the Bexley Deaf Club and
it's many activities of the
past 10 years. He then asked
the Deputy Mayor, Mr Gareth
Bacon, to give a speech. He
thanked David for a bouquet
of flowers, which had been presented
to his wife, and continued,
through a sign language interpreter,
to say how impressed he was
with the Club and all it had
achieved in the last 10 years.
He wished the Club and it's
members continued success in
the future, and seemed genuinely
delighted to have been asked
to attend. He spoke with many
of the members about a variety
of things relating to deafness,
as well as wishing the members
of the Bexley Deaf Club football
team good luck in the defence
of the Fox Cup, which they had
won for the first time this
season.
A special cake had been baked
to celebrate the Clubs 10th
anniversary. Despite having
been well fed from the barbeque,
the cake disappeared in record
time!
All in all the Bexley Deaf
Club showed that they know how
to run a successful football
tournament and social evening.
Well done to the Committee,
and thank you to all those who
came along to both the football
and the barbeque to make them
both such good fun events.
