Sue & Richard Monk's 25th Silver Wedding

1977 - 2002
Sue & Richard Monk's 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary

In 1973 Richard met Susan (Nee Alexander) for the first time at the Fairfields Theatre in Croydon where she was playing a professor in a drama for the deaf. But it was quite sometime later that they went out together and got to know each other. They went on an outing with some of their friends in the summertime.

In 1974 Richard and Susan went with some friends to Cornwall for a long weekend, for fun and a bit of bit naughty ha ha. Then they went to Mykno Island in Greece in later October with friends for two weeks, they had a lovely time but it was quiet because almost all the hotels and some of the shops was closed because it was late in the season, but they had some lovely experience on a beautiful island. After that they did not see each other very often because Susan was very busy playing the Professor in the drama for the deaf, touring all over Britain. In 1975 they met a few times and went out to different places mainly with friends and they began to grow very close.

In September 1976 Richard asked Susan for a date for the first time and they went to Susan's friend's family. He asked her to have a dance, then suddenly her family ask them when they are going to be married and they both felt very embarrassed and they told them this is only our first date. Then they started to fall in love, but Richard was unlucky he was sick after the party so he went home. Next day he went to see Susan again, they walked around and chatted and the romance went on from there. They got engaged in December 1976, it seemed quick but they had known each for 3 years.

On Saturday 13th Auguat 1977 they got married at St John's Church in Ilseworth, Middlesex where Susan lived at the time. Richard was living at Orpington, Kent. They went for honeymoon in Devon and Cornwall but they were unlucky with the weather it rained most of the time. They bough their first new house at Blackfen, Kent and then after 4 years they moved to New Ash Green, Kent where there were lovely countryside. And are still living there. And they have had many wonderful holiday travelling to many places in Britain and abroad, which they loved. Their silver wedding party celebrations will be held at the Thistle Hotel in Brands Hatch in September 2002. Then they will be off for their 2nd honeymoon but they are not saying where it is, they will let you know later.
